We are getting better and better when it comes to creating coatings and materials that shift the light spectrum and / or reflect more energy than what they absorb.
Right now we have coatings able to cool a surface by up to 7° compared to the ambient temperatures.
Under ideal conditions that is.
Some new formulations claim to be able to reach a difference of up to 10° - PASSIVE....
Does that mean then we can just paint our homes and cars with it and go cool for free during the summer?
Not really and since these coatings work equally well in freezing temperatures.....
What we can use them for those is heat pump systems.
Even if added to a conventional heat pump system to offer more cooling on the condenser side of things they can make a huge difference to the efficiency.
The technology though has some downsides - for now at least.
All this works by using the most powerful wavelengths we can find, the blue spectrum and of course the IR spectrum.
If you convert most of the high powerful wavelengths the sun provides - from blue to yellow in the visible range, you can use materials that reflect exceptionally well in the wavelengths responsible for the heat creation.
The downside is that those wavelengths need to be reflected to their coldest opposite - empty space.
Clouds, rain and such mean the efficiency goes down the drain.
Keeping out reflections from surrounding buildings, trees and such means you have to get creative and preferably get the thing high above ground level.
But then a custom build heat exchanger with this coating provides water that is quite a bit below ambient temps.
One problem in this early stage is the amount of energy that can be transferred.
In order to keep your home cool in the summer without getting it to freeze up during the winter you need a split system.
Covering the roof, walls and all would only make things worse during the winter.
But if there is never a winter it might be an option...
Right now we would need a heat exchange of about 40m² to cool a small bedroom to any meaningful degree.
Of course you can always first add proper outside insulation to then add the reflective coating if the summers are hot and long.
The holy grail though would be a material that allows us to transfer these high energy wavelengths or the converted ones to where we can utilise them best.
Like light absorbing panels with a fibre optical cable coming out....
Provide cooling on one side while getting free energy on top of it....
Rumour has it that we already experiment with a new type of solar cells that won't require rate earth minerals while doubling up as a heat exchanger.
The interesting thing is that these coating are neither hard to create, nor exceptionally expensive...
You could make them at home....

MAybe you know the channel and maybe even this particular video, but here it goes:

Nice find!
I watched him a few times in other videos.
But that he is now even into this - cool! Literally.
I wish we would have teachers like this getting kids to specs in ways our education system no longer supports.
Ok, then, who here comes and makes some nice new cooling product for a Kickstarter?

There we go - how easy is that???
Now why don't we start a nice business and going with that?
