I've been working on a rotary or Wankel engine, for such a simple design it is making my head hurt!

It IS a simple design, sure.
But often simple means very precise movements and tight tolerances.
I tried a few years ago to copy the mechanism for a different project and thought "How hard can it be?"
Hard enough to decided on a different approach LOL
I like the simple and straight forward design of your engine though

I've had a few students make it now, and they all seem to like it, I will have to put another pin near the bottom of the intake port as there can be a little movement there when they race their engine, which can cause the piston to jam. The Wankel engine is close to finished just a couple more adjustments when I get to it. I think the kids will like just because they like to say, "Wankel"

I agree, even as a toy they are great engine to look at when they move.
And unlike the real thing we CAN actually see things
