Crankshaft:
Ouch! Doesnt look repairable, no?
Is such a thing standard and can be swapped by another one or are those crankshafts balanced to the specific cylinders?

Some people weld them...

But I guess it is not a hobby workshop job considering the alignment and hardening, not to mention machining the surfaces....

I have got most of the parts to fix it, I've got another crank, just need a conrod, as one was damaged, the rest of the engine is in pretty good shape. The engine is a Toyota 4age one of the best little 4 cylinders ever made. If you are interested here is a video on everything you need to know about 4age

Funny you should say that a guy put one in a 4wd Hilux in NZ. He pulled out the diesel and put in a 1600cc 4 cylinder. How well do you think it goes? Write your answer down before watching the video.

Ok, I was not expecting that LOL
With basically everything stripped off the car and a wet lawn my old diesel can spind around like that as well ;)
Might flip though but that's a different problem.
In my case, with roof rack, bullbar, drawer system and full gear the beast tips the scale at over 2600kg.
I bet that Hilux was well below the 1 ton mark ;)

I had a quick look in the Haynes manual I guess I know why that Hilux is so wild.
It is not equipped with the normal 4WD gearbox, just matching one for the engine with rear wheel drive.
The rev range just won't match without severe, open heart surgery, on the gears.
Keep in mind that those diesel engines usually have the max torque around 2500 to 3000 RPM - and basically already their top range as above that not much happens in terms of getting more power.
Flat out my old bucket makes just over 120km/h and then sits close to the red line.
Something tells my getting this egine into my beast with the original gearbox won't be easy, not to mention the required engeneering certificate to get it back on the road :(
