The pandemic inflation....

Don't know about you but in the past 4 months I got several Emails from companies I use for ordering things I can't get anwhere around here. Once after the other informed me about increasing their prices due to global inflation, higher shipping costs, delays and exploding prodictions costs when outs...

Re: Laser "etching" steel with low power laser !?

Electro etching is great fun indeed.... But right now I am more focussed on the "etching" or to be precise marking of those impossible materials. My last electro etching project though was rather funny, funny enough to share... A friend of mine ordered a bunch of vinyl stickers. Just imagine the cla...

Laser "etching" steel with low power laser !?

Once you played enough with carboard and wood and despite knowing it really can't work you still try to engrave some metals.... Of course you don't want to invest into costly coating either, after all a can laser marking spray can cost in excess of 50 bucks in some places. So what are the two main e...

Re: Laser engraving or creating reliefs on wood

All fine and good but I really don#t want my fancy creations on plywood... There is a way out .... Timber boards are cut from the trunk lenghwise. Pine does not really grow too think but most other woods we use use for quality furniture and carvings do. Best to know a saw mill but a good timer suppl...

Re: Laser engraving or creating reliefs on wood

Selecting the RIGHT wood.... In many cases we want THAT particular piece of wood for our project.... Only to find our 3D engraving ends up looking like crap.... There two ways to escape this trap, both reuire to make sacrifices on your choice. Number one is to grab some wood from a dedicated supplie...

Re: Laser engraving or creating reliefs on wood

What is better for 3D engravings - a long focal length or a short one ? The answer seems obvious enough - we want to go deep so we use the long focal length to keep a better beam qaulity. Most of our hobby lasers though won't have a lens fo just 3 or 4mm distance available..... Means the standard G2...

Re: Laser engraving or creating reliefs on wood

After care !!?? If we see those engraving done by pro companies we often wonder how they do it. Apart from much better machines and more power there is another thing often used to cheat. There is no chance without a picosecond laser or a high power model with an very short focal length to properly e...

Re: Laser engraving or creating reliefs on wood

Selecting the wood.... The rings and grain structure of wood is very important for laser engraving. Same for the density and possible resin content. The ideal wood would be uniform in color and with no rings or anthing, like a sheet of paper... I found a few ways of messing with the results, maybe y...

Laser engraving or creating reliefs on wood

Here in AU it is not really that easy to get the perfect wood for laser engraving at a reasonable price. We don't have too many suitable native woods it seems. For quite some years now with long off periods, I tried to find ways to make laser engraving wood easier or at least more intersting. Plawoo...

Thingyverse going down the drain ?

I just wanted to upload a new model to complete my toic for an air assist nozzle for fixed focus lenses. Got a message that my account is "under moderation". If I would think that is not correct I shall contact them. Since Jan this year their contact form is useless. It requires a re-captcha but no ...
