There was this one time, I thought a microwave oven was trying to start a conversation with me. It said, "Hi."
I said, "Hi" back, but then I realized what the oven was saying, uh displaying, was just a message about its current power setting, "High Power" but abbreviated as "Hi."

Re: Long wood screws and how to make life easy
Have you tried petrolatum or mineral oil? To me, that seems like the obvious thing to try, if you want something similar to paraffin wax, but is liquid, or almost liquid, at room temperature. Perhaps those substances are ingredients in your locally available, cheap, "shoe polish." Or just heat paraf...

Re: Fibregalss resin ACTIVATOR - can I use it undiluted?
I am going to guess the product that Liquidhandwash gave us a link to, I am guessing that can be found at Bunnings stores all over the continent. https://www.bunnings.com.au/stores Regarding the activator, that you do not mention by name, if you feed its name to Wikipedia, there is an article for th...

Re: Smoothing PLA with Methylene Chloride
Regarding the topic of where to find dichloromethane, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dichloromethane I think the dreaded Karens have succeeded in almost completely chasing DCM containing paint strippers, off from store shelves in my home country. In fact I found an article written by these Ks, braggi...

Re: D.I.Y bubble tubes
At the risk of telling you things you already know... some kinds, or maybe most kinds of glass , require some kind of annealing step, after the working step. Years ago, I had a neighbor who built a glassblowing studio in his garage, and I recall he had built a special annealer oven, that could slowl...

Re: D.I.Y bubble tubes
This is an artifact I was unaware of, and I have still never seen one IRL. Although I have seen hand boilers, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hand_boiler and dippy drinking birds, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drinking_bird which are in the same family, I guess. That is to say, these are all sealed gl...

Re: steel Swedish cook pot with lid or a steel German kit
Is this a question about outdoor cooking equipment, like a "mess kit?" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mess_kit The reason I ask, is because I was confused by the nation-related modifiers, "Swedish cook pot", "steel German kit." I tried feeding both these phrases to an image search, and one of the res...

Re: Number systems and things you might not know about them
As a courtesy to others who might stumble into this topic, I think it might go better with some links. The way I have heard it, the multiples of 12 and 60, found in our units for measuring time (seconds, minutes, hours, days) and angle (degrees, arcminutes, arcseconds) come from ancient Sumer. https...

Re: Replacing screwtop cap
Regarding the question of how to find knowledgeable people with 3D printers, somewhere in Scotland... The modern equivalent of a "phonebook" seems to be a "map search"; i.e. asking your favorite search engine for "[some business] near me" e.g. "auto parts near me" or "chinese food near me" Perhaps t...

Re: Replacing screwtop cap
To 3D print something, you need a complete, numerical description, of that something. You say you contacted the manufacturer, but did you ask the person you contacted for a more complete specification for the cap, or a file that could be used to 3D print the cap? It might be the case that person wou...
